#28 – Iron & Wine – The Shepard’s Dog

Iron & Wine’s The Shepard’s Dog exhibited a more experimental nature for Sam Beam. Sure, the album features Beam’s unbelievable song-writing abilities that we’ve become accustomed to over the years, but the sound is more unconventional, perhaps taking a page from Tom Waits. I’ve said in the past that is truly difficult to accurately describe something as complex and different as this album. So my best advice is to give it a listen, and you’ll hear masterpieces like the politically charged “Flightless Bird American Mouth” and the Beam, Calexico collaboration “Wolves (Song of the Shepherd’s Dog)”.
