Ok, so maybe it ain’t as catchy as the $5 dollar footlong song, but it certainly describes the current goings on for Against Me!. The politically mindful outfit recently embarked on a 16-date North American tour, which will see Tom Gabel and Co. hit the south for some pretty inexpensive musical shindigs, aka shows that will cost you just $10.00. “We wanted to play small places and keep it low key,” frontman Tom Gabel recently told Spinner.com. “With the economy and bailouts and the news scaring the shit out of you, we wanted people to come out and be able to afford it, no matter what.”
But of course, considering this is Against Me! at hand, there are ulterior motives, as Gabel went on to explain:
“We’ve been home for four or five months, practicing and working on the new record…We need a break from that routine to get out on the road, try out some new songs and blow off some steam…If it was up to me, I would play nothing but new stuff every night, but I think some people wouldn’t be so happy.”
Against Me! plans to hit the studio beginning in June with producer Butch Vig, who also worked with the band on 2007’s New Wave. Of the 15 songs currently “ready for the road” and which are likely to appear on the record, Gabel describes them as featuring a “different sound,” or whatever one would call an Against Me! album with piano parts…
Of course, if you’re one for the old stuff, you could always picked up the recently reissued Crime EP, which is currently available via Sabot Productions.
