A lot can be said about Fall Out Boy‘s recent decision to “invite” 50 Cent on the road with them this month. Some could say its just Universal Music’s attempt to publicize two of its biggest artists, the latter of which will be celebrating a new album this June. Others might point to the fact that it’s simply Fall Out Boy’s attempt to diversify its fans, a sentiment which is certainly backed by frontman Patrick Stump in his comments to Billboard.com: “We’ve encountered a little bit of negative feelings about it…but I think that you should challenge your audience a little bit.” And then there’s the belief, like the one held by yours truly, that’s its a combination of the two, inspired by a fragile 50 Cent looking to expand his market after getting his ass kicked for the last two years by Kanye.
Whatever the case may be, the fact is 50 Cent will be joining Fall Out Boy for five shows during the band’s recently launched “Believers Never Die Part Deux” tour. And while no collaboration between the two marquee names is currently planned, Stump didn’t close the door on the possibility:
“We haven’t really talked about it…but I think a tour kind of has a life of its own. On the first day it’s just like summer camp — you’re really awkward. But by the last day you have your group of friends and you’ve figured yourself out, so who knows? It may happen. I could just as easily see him and Cobra Starship hanging out, so we’ll see.”
