Korn fans embrace, because the rap, metal titans are back with not one, but two new albums. Following up 2007’s Untitled, and Jonathan Davis’ embarrassing brilliant cover of Lil Wayne’s “Got Money”, a new album could be released “within the year.” Reserve a slot up top on your “Best Albums of 2009” list.
Furthermore, the group has been working with original Korn producer, Ross Robinson in an effort to “really bring out, like, old school Korn. It’s heavy riffs and we’re trying to strip it down raw and get those heavy groove riffs that make you want to hop around or jump around or just go crazy. We’re going toward that,” said bassist, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu (via Billboard).
Though Fieldy adds that no lyrics have been written yet, Davis and the rest of the guys may be bringing the studio along on their upcoming tour with Avenged Sevenfold, which will feature a set of many classic Korn songs. Fieldy adds, “I’m excited to play some of these songs we haven’t played in years.”
Korn is not stopping there. Davis, Fieldy, Munky and Luzier are also hard at work on an album of covers. There’s no word on whether or not there will be anymore takes on Lil Wayne, but the set will include NIN’s “Head Like A Hole”, Faith No More’s “We Care A Lot” and The Psychedelic Furs’ “Love My Way”. I don’t know what’s more nostalgic, thinking about these songs, or listening to Korn perform them.
Though it seems the guys have enough on their plates with two new albums in the works, Fieldy has even more plans for the future. Currently, he is putting the finishing touches on Surrounded By Liars, the first album from his “street metal” side project. The project features Fieldy on guitar, rapper Q Unique and POD drummer Wuv Bernardo (I guess for some its still 1999.). The bassist/guitarist has also begun work on a “funk, fusion, jazz-type” solo album. In addition, Fieldy is working on two new book projects, following up this year’s Got the Life memoirs. One will be a collection of thoughts and revelations, entitled Fieldy’s Daily Dope, while the other will be an experimental non-fiction project.
