Apparently Prince, or whatever his name is at the moment, isnt feeling the effects of the current economic situation. Or at least, he isn’t aware of it. After all, the Purple One has just released 950 limited edition purple iPods for the low low price of $2,100.
Now to be fair, the iPods are pre-loaded with a 40-minute film, featuring footage from the Princes “21 Nights 2007 London residency, as well as a live soundtrack from his Indigo Nights album, and will be sold alongside Randee St. Nicholas’s new Prince photo book, Prince 21 Nights Opus, which includes original lyrics and poetry by the artist. So, it’s not like you’ll be getting just any ordinary iPod.
Still, it’s a pretty penny – for those of you keeping track, the iPod costs roughly $140 per song and if all of them sell, Prince will have raked in just under $2 million. Not bad for a failing economy.
All that being said, the Prince pods are being sold. According to Karl Fowler, the CEO of Kraken Opus (the publishing company) one-third of the 950 available iPods sold out in the first weekend, Im ecstatic about that, he told The Wall Street Journal. In other words, if you dig “Purple Rain” and some fine technology, this ain’t the time to be waiting…
