Despite the fact that nearly everyone on Earth is basically awaiting their debut full-length, hip-hop duo The Cool Kids have their mind set on other things, like taking quick trip to Atlanta earlier this month to work on a brand new mixtape, entitled Gone Fishin’. According to Mikey Rocks’ (Antoine Reed) blog, they pumped out 6 new tracks and 10 beats in 4 days under the supervision of producer Don Cannon. The mixtape is slated for release later this month.

The same can’t be said about the Kids much awaited debut LP, tentatively titled titled When Fish Ride Bicycles. After all, the album now almost four years in the making has been the butt of jokes for sometime now – Prefix Magazine has it listed with a 2017 release date.

But who needs a full length when your music is already flooding the airwaves, right? After successful appearances at the 2007 CMJ and Pitchfork Music Festival, touring with M.I.A., and having their tracks “Mikey Rock” and “Basement Party” featured on HBO’s Entourage and the single “Delivery Man” endorsed by Mountain Dew, the Cool Kids certainly appear to be getting their music out (and making some serious cash money, holla!) without relying on album sales.

Plus, there were some concerns that if the album – which is still expected to drop sometime this year on C.A.K.E Recordings / Chocolate Industries – was released during its original release date in Fall/ Winter 2008, it might have been overshadowed by the anticipated albums from Emimen, 50 Cent, Ludacris and possibly Jay-Z. However, those releases have also been delayed, most notably 50-Cent, who has admitted that producer Dr. Dre is “too busy” putting the finishing touches on Eminem’s Relapse to finish his album, and based on the Em’s single “We Made You” perhaps that’s a good thing.

So, maybe patience is truly a virtue on this one.
