Danger Mouse has The Last Laugh

What’s that? We’re almost at the end of the week and Brian Burton, aka, Danger Mouse, has not announced a new project?

Actually, he has, just today in fact. In Barton’s latest collaboration, the American producer has teamed up with prolific DJ and British singer Helena Costas under the name Joker’s Daughter, and are due to release their debut effort, entitled The Last Laugh, via Double Six Records, in only a few weeks!

In an interview with Domino Records, Burton noted that he discovered Costas back in 2003 and recorded an album’s worth of tunes prior to their upcoming release, but ultimately, chose to scrap the sessions. “We never really did release that first one,” Barton explained. “There are a couple of songs, like ‘Jesse the Goat,’ that survived. But she was really coming into her own style now, so we kept recording. Over the last couple of years, we put together this album.”

I guess practice truly does make perfect…

And like all Danger Mouse albums these days, The Last Laugh features its share of additional musicians, including Scott Spillane (Neutral Milk Hotel) on horns and Daniele Luppi on strings.

In case you’ve been living under a rock sans communication devices, Danger Mouse has been rather busy over the last year. Producing Beck’s last album and getting together with David Lynch and Sparklehorse hasn’t seemed to slow down the New York producer. If you aren’t intrigued already, Costas has her roots in folk-pop, so this should make for an interesting combination.

The Last Laugh will be available on June 15th.
