Thrice preps Beggars, joins Warped Tour

In the sea of alternative, hardcore, and pop-punk that floods every Vans Warped Tour, few bands match up to Thrice. Unlike the majority of their peers (with the exception of Dillinger Escape Plan or Emery), this melodic hardcore act has managed to hold true to its roots, elaborating on lyrics despite entering a more computerized age, as they did with 2005’s Vheissu. While not the hottest-selling, multiple-disc concept release we know of, the following quadruple album, The Alchemy Index, went a step beyond “concept” and just played itself out naturally. Now, the So-Cal bandits prepare to relate further to humanity with Beggars – expected for release around October.

Revealed amidst scrambled letters on the band’s official blog, the title opts for a more straightforward and serious direction rather than an overtly ambiguous approach. According to lead vocalist Dustin Kensrue via the issued press release:

“I think we are at most times deluded in thinking that we are totally responsible for our circumstances, but in the end almost everything is beyond our control to a high degree and we can’t even be sure we will wake up tomorrow. Whether you believe that God created you for a purpose, or that the world is governed by blind chance, everything in life is a gift at its core; we are beggars all.”

Under the Vagrant Records banner, Beggars contains the self-produced efforts of Thrice. And, perhaps only appropriate, to hype fans up early for the upcoming album, Thrice has opted to be on select dates of Vans Warped Tour 2009. Why only the select few is left to suspicion, but beyond this, rest assured that Texans and the band members’ fellow Californians can expect a powerful performance if it equals up at all to the act’s live material on record.
