According to TMZ.com, Adam Michael Goldstein, known in the music world as DJ AM, was found dead in his New York City apartment earlier this morning. The cause of death is not yet know.

The New York Post reports that drug paraphernalia was found in the musician’s apartment. As Rolling Stone notes, Goldstein spoke openly about his past struggles with drug and food addiction, telling Glamour he started freebasing cocaine when he was 20 years old.

TMZ also reports that a recent breakup with his girlfriend and the stress over the plane crash could have caused him to start using drugs again. He had been sober for nine years.

Goldstein is perhaps best known for his collaboration work with Blink-182’s Travis Barker. Back in September of 2008, the two musicians were the lone survivors of the aforementioned South Carolina plane crash.

As always, more as it becomes available.
