The man, the myth, and the legend that is Robin Guthrie has something he wants you to hear, and trust me, it’s worth it.
The producer/composer/everything-else-in-the-studio-guy that is responsible, in part, for the 90s shoe-gaze and recent post-shoe-gaze music that we lust over is back with a new full-length record entitled Carousel. Guthrie is flying solo for the first time in three years, but that’s not all, as it never is with this man. In addition, Carousel is being flanked by two EPs. This last spring saw The Angel Falls EP, and after the September 28th release of Carousel, the Songs to Help My Children Sleep EP will drop on November 17th. I would say the two additional EPs are ambitious, but for Guthrie, that’s taking it easy.
To kick things off, we’re getting a taste with the exquisite and dreamy “Some Sort of Paradise”. At a little over four minutes, the layered echo of guitars have an alluring way of sucking you in and easing you into the sonic, atmospheric flood that follows. In essence, just think about sitting on a warm, sunny beach, and you’ve got it. All I want to know is where was this song three months ago?
