In the most potentially incredible news ever, Brooklyn Vegan is reporting, citing “reliable sources,” that Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich, Scott Kannberg, Steve West, and Mark Ibold will reunite Pavement next summer!
The blog, which we can vouch as much more trustworthy than NME, says the reunion will include multiple nights, “possibly four,” at New York City’s Central Park Summerstage in September of 2010. Currently, the details end there, but considering the band members’ comments in recent months, it’d be safe to assume that if Pavement were to reunite there will be a few other dates to choose from.
Though rumors of a reunion have seemed to exist since, well, the hours following the band’s final performance in 1999, the possibility was ramped up late last year after Malkmus told Spin the option [of a reunion] is open.
Speaking of the rumors an interview with Loud and Quit the following month, Kannberg further added fuel to the fire, saying, “I dont see why not, you know, it could be a fun thing to do, go and play your favourite songs every night!
The guitarist went on to reveal, however, that while numerous offers had been, including one from Coachella, the band was in no hurry.
2009 would be our twenty-year anniversary too, so thatd be a good time to do it, but I think thats too soon, it might have to be pushed back later.
Now with all this is mind, the aforementioned rumor of a 2010 reunion certainly sounds plausible. We’ll find out for sure soon enough. In the meantime, start prayin’.
