When it comes to pure sonic ambiance done by a band named after an inside joke about an 80s TV show, Minus the Bear has to be one of the best. They’ve pumped out three full length albums and five EPs. Now the band readies the masses for its new album with the first track from the followup to 2007’s Planet of Ice.
Per PunkNews.org, the song, titled “Into the Mirror” and which debuted on Filter‘s website earlier this week, is an even keeled selection with an 80s lounge act vibe, where the smoke of some dive surrounds the lighter than air guitar and the tubular synth.
“This album has more scope than the past records, says guitarist Dave Knudson. Some songs are more poppy and immediate while others expand on the complexities we’re known for.
The band’s fourth album is expected to hit stores in early 2010. The band worked with Joe Chiccarelli, who has also produced My Morning Jacket and The White Stripes. The song gets a digital release on October 27th and will also be featured on a limited edition 7” along with “Broken China”. Until then, check out the song below and the band’s November/December U.S. tour dates.
