Last August, in an interview with The Believer, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke made the following comments:
“None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off… I mean, it’s just become a real drag. It worked with In Rainbows because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we’ve all said that we can’t possibly dive into that again. It’ll kill us… I mean, obviously, there’s still something great about the album. It’s just, for us, right now, we need to get away from it a bit.”
Obviously, these comments proved to be a big deal, what with them dealing with the future of the biggest band on Earth and what appeared to be the revelation that said biggest band on Earth wouldn’t be releasing albums anytime soon.
However, in a newly published interview with NME (via TFB), Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien explained that Yorke’s quotes were taken out of context.
“We were misquoted,” O’Brien told NME. “We will be making an album.” So, there.
O’Brien went on to explain that the band will be heading into the studio this winter in Oxfordshire, which perhaps explains why there doesn’t appear to be any more Yorke solo shows planned this year — “We’re going to do this again next year some time” he told the crowd during his performance in Los Angeles this past Sunday (Oct. 4).
So, to recap, a new Radiohead album is coming… possibly soon. Yay.
