According to The Commercial Appeal, a Memphis based newspaper, Jay Reatard has in fact died. He was 29-years old.
Memphis’ Goner Records is also confirming the death. A posting reads: “It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend Jay Reatard. Jay died in his sleep last night. We will pass along information about funeral arrangements when they are made public.”
Born on May 1, 1980 in Memphis, Reatard had been both a member of bands The Reatards and Lost Sounds. Of late, he had become an acclaimed solo artists, most recently releasing his second studio album, Watch Me Fall, last August on Matador Records.
As BrooklynVegan reports, several Twitter users first indicated that the Memphis musician had died. No official statement has been issued.
