If you start counting the very best underground hip-hop acts on your fingers, you’ll run out before you name all of those with a close relationship to Madlib. This is no joke: MF Doom, Mos Def, A.G., Ghostface—they’ve all collaborated extensively with the man born Otis Jackson Jr. He works year-round on the albums that end up on the “best of” lists at year’s end, and, as Prefix reports, has a exciting one coming out soon: a jazz record with The Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble called Miles Away, to be released by Stones Throw Records.

An offshoot of Madlib’s Yesterdays New Quintet, which disbanded in 2007, The Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble previously released two Madlib-produced, seasonally-themed records (2007’s Summer Suite and 2009’s Fall Suite) and is the producer’s outlet for his brand of wild, 21st century jazz fusion.

Miles Away will be out in the Spring, and we’ll have a tracklist available for you as soon as possible.
