Two of independent music’s biggest names will join forces this summer. As Consequence of Sound has learned, the recently reunited lo-fi rock outfit Pavement has been tapped to headline the 2010 edition of the Pitchfork Music Festival. Official details are still forthcoming, but the Chicago based music festival is expected to take place in mid-July.
The appearance marks the band’s second confirmed U.S. festival appearance for 2010. Following a slew of dates across New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Europe, and the United Kingdom, Pavement will perform at the Sasquatch! Music Festival, set to take place from May 29-31 in George, Washington. A full North American tour is expected to be announced in the weeks ahead.
Update: According to a Pitchfork spokesperson, “the festival can only acknowledge its proposed dates of July 16-18, 2010. We are still working on the important details of ticket price, on sale date and, of course, line up. Any information at this time concerning these aspects would be premature.”
We should also note that in a recent interview with Jeffrey Lee Puckett of the Louisville Courier-Journal, the band’s percussionist, Bob Nastanovich, made note of the forthcoming appearance. The vast majority of venues will be far larger than any they used to play, but none are expected to be in Louisville. Chicago’s Pitchfork Festival will likely be the closest; the only non-festival U.S. dates announced so far are the late September shows in Central Park [in New York],” Mr. Puckett wrote.
