Since its release back in 1989, Pixies’ Doolittle has gained more and more popularity, between obtaining its gold certification in 1995, the band’s surprising 2004 reunion, and then in recent years its inclusion in the beloved Rock Band. And now, Doolittle will be getting its very own “Omnibus Edition”. The forthcoming reissue of the classic Pixies record will supposedly feature a new surround mix, the record’s original demos, and may even include an exclusive Blu-ray disc with the expanded box set. However, nothing’s been set in stone just yet.
Last summer, Beggars Banquet launched their archival imprint with the initial intentions of incorporating Pixies into the mix however no details on its progress were ever announced. Well, until now anyways. According to a recent post on the Beggars Archive blog, “The surround mix of Doolittle is slowly coming together and we’re looking to interview everyone involved with the album for the Omnibus booklet. The demo tapes will be mastered soon (or as soon as The Fall is finished). I can feel another Blu-ray coming on…”.
Thus far, Beggars Archive has released multi-disc Omnibus Edition’s for both The Cult’s Love and Bauhaus’ In The Flat Field and Mask, however, it remains unclear when the Doolittle issue will surface, if ever. As the label keeps itself occupied with other reissues from the likes of The Fall and This Mortal Coil, we can only hope that further details will soon be revealed, or better yet a confirmed release date.
In the meantime, the band still has a few more upcoming reunion tour dates, where they’ll of course be remembering Doolittle… from a live perspective.
