After 24 years of playing with the experimental rock band Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley has formed a new band dubbed High Confessions. Featuring industrial rock god Chris Connelly (Ministry, Revolting Cocks), metal guitarist Sanford Parker (Minsk, Nachtmystium) and Jeremy Lemos (White/Light), High Confessions debut a unique multi-faceted sound that mixes metal with experimental prog rock.
Recently signed by the metal label Relapse Records, High Confessions expect to release its debut album Turning Lead Into Gold With the High Confessions sometime this summer. Relapse recently described the High Confessions sound as a real heavy, psychedelic rock. Were secretly hoping for something that sound like what would come out if Sonic Youth and Liars had an offspring together, plus heavy meddling with industrial sound (think Nine Inch Nails) and an infatuation with heavy bass, fast-rhythms and wicked guitar playing. Thats maybe a far stretch, but its still do-able. Besides, how awesome would that be?
Stay tuned for more detailed info on High Confessions. Also, dont miss Shelley on March 20th! He’ll be performing for one night only as part of an interactive music installation alongside fellow band mate Lemoss band White/Light at Chicagos Museum of Contemporary Art. How cool is that? Almost as cool as this.
