Do you like pure, unadulterated buzz? Well, you just may have a chance to experience it live in all its glory, Pitchfork reports. That’s because Georgia’s Washed Out, Long Island’s Small Black, and Denver’s Pictureplane will be joining each other on an upcoming national tour stretching through March into early April (including an extended stop at SXSW). It’s an unholy trifecta of hipitude — indeed, two members of Small Black’s live band work for Pitchfork, for goodness’ sake. Will Smith’s line in Men in Black II about “new hotness” rings in this writer’s ear.
This is not to diminish the artists, of course (well, maybe a little). Washed Out’s Life of Leisure EP, released last year, is indeed an intriguing blast of languid synthpop. It’s certainly worth listening to, and its tunes will be interesting to see performed; Small Black will pull double-duty and back Washed Out during his set.
In celebration of the venture, Lovepump United has released a split 7” from both bands. Appropriately, on each act’s respective disc is a remix of one of the other’s tunes: Washed Out tackles Small Black’s “Despicable Dogs”, while Small Black took a stab at Washed Out’s “You’ll See It”.
