If every album was as good as it’s press release made it sound, well, I wouldn’t have much to write about. The press release for the new Frog Eyes record and tour reads like madlibs made by Rain Man, having too much fun with the adjectives, finally climaxing in a series of unrelated words, “heavy, raw, literate, otherworldy and in the end, utterly compelling.” Call me a pessimist , but I’m preparing to be disappointed by these lofty expectations. Prove me wrong, Frog Eyes!

Due for release on on April 27th, Paul’s Tomb: A Triumph marks the Canadian outfit’s first album on Dead Oceans, and it will probably find a bigger initial audience than their previous efforts given their recent support of friend-band Wolf Parade and lead singer Carey Mercer’s involvement in the stellar side-project Swan Lake. This particular record will feature a sound that was recorded almost completely live to tape, coming across as ”neither yesteryear nor that super-hip Brooklyn sound.” Wow, he really did just nail down the current state of rock music into two categories pretty succinctly.

In support of the release, Frog Eyes will bring their passion, energy and vocabulary to small rooms across the country starting in May. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
