Check Out: The Chemical Brothers – “Swoon”

With their new album Further ready to be released in just under a month, The Chemical Brothers are gearing up to drop their seventh LP of their unique brand of big beat electro. And while the first tease from the album was the speaker-annihilating burner called “Escape Velocity,” this time around they’re offering a visual creation to accompany their much lighter track entitled “Swoon”.

As so aptly observed by Prefix Magazine, the visuals, done by Adam Smith and Marcus Lyal, are essentially a reverse iPod commercial (you know, the characters are where the scenery’s projected while the background’s essentially static with blackness; watch more TV). Regardless of your stance on the visuals, get used to work by Smith and Lyal; they’ve done animation for another seven tracks on the album. Despite the pretty pictures, however, it’s the track itself you should be concerned with.

The song is where the album’s reportedly psychedelic bent is most evident. With a big wailing guitar and some light and bubbly rhythms, possibly their most sugary sweet to date, the song shines like a great pop gem. And coming in at just over three minutes, it’s not enough of a crazed loop to distract, going long enough to build into something joyous and something surreal.
