Christina Aguilera just announced her summer tour, a cross-country trek across North America. Kicking off in Connecticut on June 15th and wrapping up a month later in California, the tour hits major markets in support of her June release Bionic.We’ve got the tour dates below, though it seems reasonable to suspect this is only the beginning.
These dates mark her first outing since the emergence of Lady Gaga. At the time of her last release, 2006’s platinum Back to Basics, Aguilera arguably held the weird-pop-star crown, but two years of Kermit outfits and Kill Bill-esq videos have stripped her of the honor. Whether this tour marks an attempt to reclaim the throne or not, critics and fans alike will inevitably view it through the fuchsia-tinted lenses of a post-Gaga world.
The lasers, fog and dance moves in Aguilera’s recent Oprah performance seemed a downright traditional approach compared to you-know-who. And though many speculated that the deeply strange videos from mysterious YouTuber iamamiwhoami were Aguilera’s doing, the release of more conventional club bangers like “Woohoo (ft. Nicki Minaj)” has pretty much dispelled that theory. Christina may not try to out-strange Gaga after all.
