M83 to score video game thriller

Having successfully recovered from last summer’s onstage scuffle, Anthony Gonzalez, better known to me and you as M83, has moved on to his next endeavor. As The Playlist reports, the French musician has been tapped to score a brand new film from director Gilles Marchand titled Black Heaven, or L’autre Monde in French. Now, here’s where it gets really interesting: the film promises to be an epic thriller about love and the horror of an online video game.

    Per the film’s plot synopsis:

Gaspard and Marion are in love and enjoying summer in the south of France with a bunch of friends. But one day Gaspard meets Audrey and his life takes a much somber path. Audrey is beautiful, poisonous and lives a double life in an on-line game called Black Hole where she is called Sam. There she attracts victims and seduces them to commit suicide in real life. Creating an avatar who is miles away from him, Gaspard creeps further into Black Hole setting on a search for Sam, only to find another terrible truth.

Black Heaven is set for release in France this June. The filmmakers are reportedly still seeking a U.S. distributor. One way or another, however, get ready to hear some new M83 fairly soon. In the meantime, check out the film’s trailer below, which does seem to feature at least a few M83-sounding elements.
