Neil Young hits the road May 18th on his “Twisted Road” tour, and the icing on the cake is you’ll probably get a chance to hear some new tracks from his now forthcoming album, tentatively titled Twisted Road. How perfect! Young will work with lauded producer Daniel Lanois, who previously brought us U2’s Joshua Tree, Bob Dylan’s Oh Mercy, and Peter Gabriel’s Go, no less. It’s hard to believe, but Young’s solo career has not seen a collaboration between a large, glossy producer such as Lanois.
None other than former band-mate David Crosby is taking point as interim publicist/dear friend, speaking of the record in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “Neil told me last week that he was having a great time talking music with [Lanois] and just relating to him.” Crosby told Young, “‘If you want a harmony, I’m volunteering.’ He said, ‘You know, if I need one you’ll be the first guy I call.'” If you listen closely, ears to the wind, you can hear Stills and Nash pouting somewhere.
Little else is known about the forthcoming album, but Crosby says, “I suspect this will be a very heartfelt record. I expect it will be a very special record.” Suspicions and expectations noted and echoed.
