Nicole Fiorentino named new Smashing Pumpkins bassist

On the same day we dissected what would may have happened if James Iha, D’arcy Wretzky, and Jimmy Chamberlain never left the Smashing Pumpkins, the band’s lone founding member, Billy Corgan, has revealed his new bassist. As Hipster Runoff United notes, former Twilight Sleep and Light FM member Nicole Fiorentino has been tapped to serve as the Pumpkin’s bassist, replacing Ginger Pooley, who left the band last March.

Fiorentino’s resume also includes previous stints with Spinnerette, Louise Post’s Veruca Salt, and Radio Vago. She also is a founder of Real Rock and Roll Catering.

According to a status update on Fiorentino’s MySpace page, “she is keeping herself very busy these days in the studio with Billy and the rest of the pumpkins crew. She will also be performing live with band for any future tours/gigs.”
