Pants Yell! breaking up, final show this month

Chalk up another one. Boston indie pop trio Pants Yell! is calling it quits after seven years together. Frontman Andrew Churchman calls it a “self imposed expiration date” instead of a breakup, but in any case, the band’s last show is scheduled for May 24th in Cambridge.

Churchman wrote the following on the band’s blog:

To me, pants yell represents something very special and precious and I want to keep that magic intact. I’m no longer the 23 year old singing ‘Evan’s Way’. I want to branch out stylistically in my songwriting and I feel that it wouldn’t be fair to carry on with the name pants yell. I’ve grown up obsessed with the pop mystique – the Felts, the June Brides, the Ropers and the Adens – the bands that did what they had to do, made some incredibly intelligent music and left it at that. There’s a lot to be said in knowing when to leave the party at the right time and that’s what we’re doing.

The tone is less somber from here — he goes on to say that he’s started an online archive to host Pants Yell!-related media and “news on upcomming [sic] projects,” meaning there is likely to be plenty more from Churchman in the future and perhaps bandmates Sterling Bryant and Casey Keenan.

But for now, Pants Yell! is completing its farewell tour. The band started with a show in Northampton, Massachusetts April 30th, and will visit the University of Chicago May 15th. Churchman and co. will finish things off back east with shows the following week in New York City and Philadelphia and finally the closing gig in Cambridge. Tender Trap will support the band in NYC and Philadelphia while Swedish band A Smile and A Ribbon will serve as openers for the final show. The full tour dates are listed below.
