If a collaboration between a grunge vocalist and an indie pop singer/cellist seemed a little unlikely to you back in 2006, welcome to album number three. Former Queens of the Stone Age/Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan has gotten together with founding Belle and Sebastian member Isobel Campbell for the followup to 2008’s Sunday at Devil Dirt.
This time, the duo is mixing it up by bringing in some special guests including folkster Willy Mason, ex-Smashing Pumpkins/current Tinted Windows ax-man James Iha, and singer/songwriter Victoria Williams, noted for regular appearances with Giant Sand.
As TwentyFourBit points out, a listing for Campbell and Lanegan’s upcoming September performance at London’s Barbican Hall refers to the new album as Hawk. The album will be out just in time for that performance, with an August 24th U.S. release scheduled.
