While the upcoming biopics of Freddie Mercury and Tupac Shakur are undoubtedly going to be cinematic gold, there’s a new project on the way that outshines them all in terms of made-for-Hollywood potential, especially since said act’s career was essentially staged from day one. According to Prefix, Milli Vanilli, the world’s best/worst lip-synchers, are getting the Hollywood treatment courtesy of German Oscar winner Florian Gallenberger (Quiero Ser, John Rabe).
Gallenberger will write and direct the story of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus, who rose to fame by selling millions of copies of their 1989 debut, Girl You Know It’s True, winning the 1990 Best New Artist Grammy, and subsequently being ousted as frauds before attempting to make a go of it as legit artists (which, surprise, wasn’t as ginormous of a hit). In recent years, Morvan has worked as a solo artist, while Pilatus died of an overdose in 1998. Despite originally being a project at Universal, according to The Playlist, the Kennedy/Marshall Company and Catch Me If You Can writer/producer Jeff Nathanson are now running the project independently and are currently in search of financing.
