franco So, James Franco has himself an EP...

Most of us have seen the horrors of what occurs when an actor decides to become a musician. Sure, there’s the Zooey Deschanel’s of the world, but for every one of them there are disasters like Bruce Willis, Jared Leto, and Jennifer Lopez. Now, another Hollywood elite has gone and sipped the Kool-Aid of their own hype: Oscar-nominated actor James Franco (Howl, 127 Hours) has teamed up with video/performance artist Kalup Linzy to form the epic duo Kalup & Franco and are dropping their debut EP Turn It Up this July (via Pitchfork). We smell bacon…

The pair first came together after performing during Franco’s stint on General Hospital (watch the majesty of a rendition of “Proud Mary” from an episode below.) The EP will be released through Dutty Artz, the label of renowned mash-up guru DJ/rupture, as a digital download and as a limited-edition 7″. It’s comprised of three tracks, “Rising (Both Sides Now)”, “Turn It Up (So We Can Turn It Out)”, and “Fly Away”, with the first two featuring production from DJ/rupture himself. Kalup & Franco also plan to shoot music videos for all three songs, each of which will feature “surprise guest cameos.” Anne Hathaway is probably not on that list.
