Just because Archers of Loaf are in the thick of a successful reunion, doesn’t mean that frontman Eric Bachmann is resting on his laurels. In fact, Bachmann’s other project, Crooked Fingers, have recently canned a new record and mapped out plans for a fall tour of North America.
The new album, Breaks in the Armor, is Bachmann’s sixth under the Crooked Fingers moniker and follows 2008’s Forfeit/Fortune. Recording in the winter before/in which Archers got back together (busy guy), Bachmann enlisted fellow Athens, GA resident Liz Durrett on backing vocals and the Pixies’ live-sound engineer Matt Yelton to put in work at Yelton’s The Bakery Studios. A press release calls the effort “beautifully understated, artfully phrased, and ultimately a paean to perseverance,” and says it “seems to suggest that the breaks in the armor are more important than the armor itself.” We’ll have to wait to hear what that suggestion means when Merge Records releases the record on October 11th.
After both of his units play Musicfest NW in September, Bachmann will take Crooked Fingers on the road beginning in Carrboro, NC four days after the new full-length drops. He’ll pretty much circle the continent counter-clockwise before finishing things up on December 2nd in Houston, TX. The complete tour schedule is just below.
Next year promises to see both Crooked Fingers and Archers of Loaf on the road with Bachmann alternating between the two, so stay tuned for more.
