It’s been a hot minute since we’ve written about Austin-based singer-songwriter Ben Kweller, but today he returns with a brand new song. Well, sort of. In the SoundCloud widget below, check out an uber lo-fi cut called “I’m In The SoundCloud”. Yes, it’s a song about SoundCloud — now that’s some Ryan Adams shit.
In other, more exciting news, Kweller is currently putting the finishing touches on his next record, Go Fly a Kite. According to a recent fan newsletter, the album was self-produced and recorded over the course of the past year by longtime engineer and studio companion Steve Mazur. Howie Weinberg is currently mastering the finished product.
Kweller describing the album in his own words:
“This album is probably the most concise collection of what I do… There’s something for everyone. Fans of the earlier stuff like Freak Out and Sha Sha, all the way to Ben Kweller will be excited to have electric guitars back again and fans that came on board during Changing Horses will find some nuggets in there as well… The album is very poppy and fun, yet a lot of the themes are fairly sad and antagonistic. There’s some guitar shredding going on too! I included more guitar solos than usual and I really look forward to reproducing it live.”
Go Fly a Kite is tentatively due in February via his new imprint, The Noise Company.
