Check Out: Elliott Smith – “Misery Let Me Down” (Unreleased)

Since his tragic death in 2003, several of Elliott Smith‘s unreleased recordings have surfaced in various compilations – specifically 2007’s excellent New Moon – and it’s right to believe you’ve “heard it all.” But, that’s never the case (see: Tupac Shakur, Nirvana, The Doors, et al.). So it appears that there are still treasures to be found from Smith, as The Washington Post directs us to a rare recording that’s been lost for several years. Titled “Misery Let Me Down”, the two-minute folksy melody dates back to 1997, when Smith visited University of Maryland’s WMUC-FM for a 1o-song set. Check it out over at The Washington Post, and read up on the recording’s history, and how it finally surfaced. Pretty good story.
