Check Out: Foster the People – “Macchu Picchu” (The Strokes cover)

In an effort to remind us The Strokes released an LP this year – c’mon, didn’t you love “Under Cover of Darkness”, too? – Foster the People covered Angles opener “Macchu Picchu” during a recent BBC 1 Live Lounge session (via Hypetrak). It doesn’t sound very different, Julian Casablancas would probably just shrug at it, but there is this nice Police-like swagger to it. Singer Mark Foster discussed the cover to BBC1, stating: “The song title sounds like a Pokémon character. It’s a rock song we wanted to flip on its head. It’s definitely our kind of psychedelic take on this song.” Someone should tell him that although it does sound like a great nemesis of Psyduck, the song’s title actually refers to the famous Peruvian Incan site of the same name. Check it out below.
