It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from Phil Elverum, aka Mount Eerie. His last LP, Wind’s Poem, creeped us out back in 2009, and last December, he confused us with the incongruous compilation, Song Islands Vol. 2. Since then, however, he’s found some rays of sunshine. On his latest cut, titled “Distorted Cymbals”, Elverum’s left behind the foggy, windy forests of Wind’s Poem and, instead, has opted for sunny dalliances in thoughtful distortion. In fact, you could mistaken this track for a long lost Pavement demo. Check out a stream over at the label’s Tumblr.
So, why now? Recently, Elverum hooked up with K Records founder Calvin Johnson and recorded this track at his Dub Narcotic Studio. On February 7th, K Records will issue a 7″ that features this song and a Selector Dub Narcotic remix titled, “Anglepoise Cymbals”.
