Lately, have you been sliding through your iPod, thinking, Damn, I wonder how many Pet Shop Boys songs are out there untouched? Well, here’s your answer: 38. And come this February, you’ll have all the time in the world to soak ’em up, when the UK synthpop legends release Format, their second effort of unreleased material (via NME).
Similar to 1995’s Alternative, which collected Pet Shop Boys B-sides circa 1985-1994, Format picks up where that one left off. In other words, all 38 tracks are culled from the group’s releases between 1996 and 2009. No need to consult Wikipedia, that’s five albums worth of B-sides. So, naturally, you can understand why it’s such a lengthy collection – it’s two discs! Now, to top it all off, they’ve all been remastered and the album itself will feature a booklet that includes an interview with Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. That should hold fans over until the duo release its 11th studio LP next fall.
Format hits stores in the UK on February 7th via Parlophone, while a U.S. release date remains forthcoming.
