Jazz music originating from New Orleans, Louisiana is revered the world over, and one of the citys most iconic institutions is about to celebrate 50 years of stompin and blowin the distinctly American style. The legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band will perform a special 50th anniversary event at Carnegie Hall on January 7th, and they wont be doing it alone.
PHJB is known for keeping the early spirit of jazz while mixing with the modern musical experience, garnering them a wide variety of performer friends. For this celebratory concert, theyll be calling on My Morning Jacket, Del McCoury Band, Trombone Shorty, Givers, Allen Toussaint, Blind Boys of Alabama, Tao Seeger, and Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) to join them on stage. Many of these acts have teamed with PHJB before (where’s Tom Waits?); MMJ are frequent collaborators, Shorty and Mos Def joined them for a benefit single, and just this year they released a joint album with Del McCoury Band titled American Legacies.
You can watch a video announcing the event below. Tickets will be available beginning December 2nd at the Carnegie Hall box office and website.
