As rumored, Madonna will headline the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show on February 5th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The news was formally announced during tonight’s Sunday Night Football game, with an issued press release adding that the performance will be imagined by Cirque du Soleil and Madonna’s longtime creative director Jamie King.
Madonna will likely use the performance to showcase the material from her as-yet-untitled new album, which is slated for an early 2012 release. So far, we’ve hear a demo version of the lead single, “Give Me All Your Love, along with a track titled “Masterpiece”.
Madonna was previously confirmed to perform at Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000. However, she pulled out of the performance a few days later, due to conflicts with her recording schedule.
Nickleback were probably not considered.
