The Roots’ undun gets an app

The slyest band in late night and living hip-hop legends The Roots are following in some unlikely footsteps: Björk. Just as the Icelandic songstress did for her latest album Biophilia, The Roots have released an app as a companion to their upcoming concept album, undun.

Adding an interactive element to the listening experience, the application will feature interviews, lyrics, video clips, and images, all of which aim to provide deeper understanding of and perspective on the life of the album’s fictional protagonist, Redford Stephens. You can delve deeper into the short life of the young, doomed drug dealer by exploring his relationships, city surroundings, and decision making processes.

The app is currently available as a free download for both iPhone and iPad. undun, the album, is out December 6th on Def Jam and is currently streaming at NPR.
