It’s a smart schedule for any late ’80s act: record a new LP, tour the States performing a classic LP, and hit up a popular music festival. That’s exactly what UK outfit The Wedding Present plan to do in 2012. As Slicing Up Eyeballs reports, the David Gedge-led collective will release its eighth studio LP in March, followed by a string of U.S. dates that begin at the BBQ-glazed Austin convention that is South by Southwest.
Yet despite the new LP, the group’s U.S. dates will focus on their 1991 third effort, the Steve Albini-produced Seamonsters. So if you’ve always wanted to hear “Corduroy” or “Heather” live, then, well, here’s your big day. Also, according to Gedge’s website, this same tour will continue into April with dates penciled for Australia and Japan, and later in Europe come autumn.
For now, check out the complete list of tour dates below, which includes a brief UK run aptly titled, “Seeing Out 2011 with The Wedding Present”. Fans in London should be stoked as the band plans to spend New Year’s Eve there. What a – dare we say – present? We’ll go with “a pleasant treat.”
