Handsome Furs explored the prudish tendencies of society in the risqué music video for “What About Us”. In the video for “Serve The People”, however, the band explores another aspect of modern everyday life: being young and going nowhere. Directed by Han Xia, who met the Furs the during their 2009 tour of China, the cinematic clip follows a young Chinese street sweeper (a former classmate of Xia) from the time he gets up for his dead-end job to his wild evenings roaming the very streets he cleans. In the end, though, the perils of youth become too much and our protagonist has himself a neat anxiety attack before taking off into the wind. No idea where he’s running to, but one hopes it’s some place cool. Watch the video below (via Stereogum).
