Suckers announce sophomore album, Candy Salad

Brooklyn art rock outfit Suckers’ 2010 debut album, Wild Smile, was something of a patchwork effort. Recorded in various studios across the U.S. between the band’s perpetual touring, the record was lauded for fusing core pop songwriting tendencies with a wildly experimental aesthetic. For their upcoming sophomore LP, entitled Candy Salad, the band abandoned their back-and-forth approach to recording for more stability.

According to a press release for the effort, the band “hunkered down” at the Vacation Island studio in Williamsburg with producer Matt Boynton (Black Dice, MGMT). Whereas the last album was influenced by The Talking Heads and David Bowie, this record culled from the music of Brian Eno, the Brit-pop scene, and even Prince. The end goal was to “formulate something more cohesive and warm” that still maintained the “buoyancy and pop smarts of Wild Smile.”

Candy Salad hits stores on April 24th via Frenchkiss. The band will be on tour throughout the spring/early summer, with the full schedule just below the album’s tracklist.
