Like the singer’s tumultuous life itself, biopics of the hard-living Janis Joplin haven’t always gone so smoothly. Back in 2010, Amy Adams wast attached to star in a project to be directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God). Then, news of a second project with full financing and song rights entitled Joplin appeared, starring Tony-winning actress Nina Arianda and helmed by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene).

Now, as Indiewire reports, Adams is back in the first biopic and a new director has been hired in Lee Daniels (Precious, The Paperboy). Get It While You Can will feature a script from Ron and Theresa Kounin-Terry, and though the project’s being financed independently, Focus Features may step in to produce. Daniels is currently at-work on his White House drama The Butler, but production on Get It could be underway by early 2013, the same timeframe for Joplin to begin filming.

Stay tuned for more on both films as it’s announced. If this situation sounds familiar, it should: two biopics on Jeff Buckley have been ramping up simultaneously for some time.
