Stars release video for “Hold On When You Get Love…”, plus new tour dates

Canadian indie-poppers Stars have released a video for “Hold On When You Get Love And Let Go When You Give It,” off their latest LP, The NorthFeaturing dozens of drag queens, a unicorn mask, and a vintage Dinosaur Jr. t-shirt, the video documents the preparation and execution of an appropriately outrageous fashion show. Pairing the band’s quirky sense of pop composition with the stark black and white visuals, frontman Torquil Campbell and director George Vale have portrayed the culture with true humanism, letting honest emotion overcome rote generalizations. Plus, every model can dance and strut like a mofo.

    Says Campbell:

I wanted to make a video that celebrated the following things: 1. Being yourself 2. Being someone else 3. Being fucking fabulous 4. Showing up, putting on your heels and staying alive. Drag queens know a couple of things the rest of us choose not to know: you are who you imagine yourself to be, and you can be a star even if, especially if, nobody ever knows who you really are. That’s the spirit of pop, and this is a video for a POP song that most people will never hear. So I thought it all went together like Sonny and Cher. Hope you all enjoy it.
