Henry Rollins used to work at Häagen Dazs

True story: For a year and a half, I worked at Cold Stone Creamery. It was one of darkest periods of my life, and is still embarrassing to talk about. All those milkshakes did wonders for my figure, and you haven’t experienced hell until you’ve cleaned a waffle cone maker. Fortunately I made it out alive, just as Henry Rollins did 30 years ago. Wait, what? Yes, the guy up above, is the same guy pictured below:

As Buzzfeed points out, the Prince of Punk, the Brutal Force of Black Flag, the Authority on All That is Good, the Man Who Could Destroy Entire Armies With his Bare Fists, once worked at Häagen-Dazs. Not only did he work at Häagen-Dazs, he was Assistant Manager at Häagen-Dazs.

Here he is wearing his Häagen-Dazs shirt while fellow punk legend Ian MacKaye is perplexed by the existence of bananas. (MacKaye worked at Häagen-Dazs, too!)

In 1981, Rollins was invited to audition for Black Flag, and as he explained to Big Think, he decided a life in music was worth the risk of missing one day at Häagen-Dazs:

“I looked at the ice cream scoop in my hand…my chocolate-bespattered apron…and my future in the world of minimum wage work…or I could go up to New York and audition for this crazy band who was my favorite. What’s the worst that’s gonna happen to me? I miss a day of work…ooh, there goes 21 bucks.”
