Sharon Van Etten has revealed more details regarding her forthcoming third studio album, Are We There, along with dates for an extensive summer tour.
Spanning 11 tracks, the follow-up to 2012’s Tramp will hit stores on May 27th via Jagjaguwar. As noted, the album’s recording was split between Weehawken, NJ’s Hobo Sound Studios and New York’s infamous Electric Lady Studios. Stewart Lerman (St. Vincent, Regina Spektor) handled production duties alongside Van Etten. That’s the album artwork above.
According to a press release, “Sharon has shared an album not only fully-formed and extravagant in sound but also completely self-produced. Her writing also continues to explore personal experience drawing from feelings of emptiness, loss, fear of change, desire, waiting, and self-healing.”
Adding, “It is clear from Are We There‘s opening chords, we are witnessing a new awareness, a sign of Van Etten in full stride, writing, producing and performing from a place that seems almost mythical, were it not so touchable and real. Always direct, and never shying away from even the most personally painful narratives, Van Etten’s songwriting continues to evolve.”
