Brian Reitzell, a renowned film composer who’s worked with the likes of Gus Van Sant and Sofia Coppola, is prepped to release his solo debut, Auto Music, this June. Spanning nine tracks, the LP features contributions from My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James.
Interestingly enough, the album originally began as a project geared more towards his film work. “I wasn’t making a pop record,” Reitzell explained in a press release. “I was experimenting with sounds to further my knowledge for creating music for my film projects and exploring new ways to make music.”
“Last Summer”, his collaboration with Shields, is the first track to surface from Auto Music. In true cinematic form, the nearly nine-minute number is vast and hypnotic, as its softly droning beginnings eventually give way to more bustling energy. Here, Shields, who previously teamed up with Reitzell for Lost In Translation, mans the glowing organs. Listen in below.
Auto Music arrives on June 3rd via Smalltown Supersound.
