Listen: Jay Reatard’s cover of Nirvana’s “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle”

Shortly after Jay Reatard’s death in 2010, his website released an unmastered cover of Nirvana’s “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenger On Seattle”. The rendition is one of the garage rock workhorse’s last recordings, written for a long-in-the works In Utero tribute album. Now, after years of “extended delays and legal wrangling”, Robotic Empire has finally set a release date for the compilation and shared the remastered cut of Reatard’s interpretation.

Reatard’s cover is a much more fitting tribute to Kurt Cobain than his hometown’s terrifying and sadly hilarious statue of the late grunge icon. It maintains the spirit of the original with ample amounts of grainy guitar fuzz and nasally screams, but ups the tempo with Reatard’s characteristically surging rhythms. Listen below (via Noisey).

Out on Record Store Day, April 19th, In Utero: In Tribute: In Entirety also include contributions from Ceremony, Thursday, These Arms Are Snakes, Young Widows, Mean Jeans, Daughters, Circa Survive and more. Check out the full tracklist below.
