Listen: Sam Smith’s beautiful new single “Stay With Me”

With UK crooner Sam Smith’s meteoric rise to prominence over the last year, anticipation for his debut LP couldn’t be higher. Thus far, we’ve heard two cuts from In The Lonely Hour: “Lay Me Down” was released over a year ago, and “Money On My Mind” has been blowing up speakers since December. Now, as the album’s May 26th release date via Capitol Records creeps ever closer, Smith has delivered his newest single, “Stay With Me”.

“Stay With Me” — which Zane Lowe deemed “a classic” before premiering today on BBC Radio 1 — is a slow-burning piano ballad. With a gospel choir backing him, Smith’s golden, silky smooth voice once again stands out. The track gradually builds, adding drums and strings with Smith singing, “Won’t you stay with me, because you’re all I need”. Lowe loved the song so much he played it twice, saying “the world needs this record.” Listen below.

In The Lonely Hour drops May 26th, with pre-orders currently ongoing. Below, find Smith’s tour itinerary, which includes stops at Bonnaroo and Bestival. Plus, catch him on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
