Peter Murphy confirms Lion release date, announces North American tour

    Earlier this week, it was revealed that Peter Murphy will release his 10th solo album, Lions, this June. Today, Murphy has officially confirmed that the 11-track effort will be released in the US on June 3rd via the Nettwerk Music Group. That’s the slightly trippy album artwork above.

    In an interview with Billboard last May, Murphy called the album “a mixture of stuff…almost like operas for the dispossessed. It’s very romantic and very deep and emotional, quite symphonic in places, but then becomes, like, a rabble-rousing pirate sea shanty.” A press release adds that Lion “possesses an elegant master of tone – bass heavy, stark, shimmering and symphonic. It sustains a heart-in-throat tension from start to finish.”

    Lead single “Hang Up” will hit the web on April 8th. (A dub version of the same track is due out for Record Store Day on April 19th.) In the meantime, check out the album’s teaser trailer below:

    In support of Lion, Murphy has announced a North American tour set for this summer. The 33-date jaunt kicks off May 22nd in Las Vegas and wraps up July 5th in Los Angeles. Consult the full schedule below.
