Vivian Girls may be no more, but bassist “Kickball” Katy Goodman has plans of her own: her project La Sera are gearing up to release their third album, Hour of the Dawn, on May 13th through Hardly Art. The 10-track effort follows 2012’s Sees the Light and draws inspiration from The Pretenders, Minor Threat, The Smiths, and The Cars, among others. According to Goodman, she wanted the LP to “sound like Lesley Gore fronting Black Flag.”
While La Sera mustered up playful noise on lead single “Losing to the Dark”, their latest album cut, “Running Wild”, sees Goodman & Co. racing for the hills, spurred on by driving, jangly guitars and crashing drums. “Oh baby, running wild, got no place to go,” Goodman calls out freely, as though she’s just broken out of prison and breathed fresh air for the first time. Check it out below.
